Portuguese-flagged Luise Oldendorff Successfully Tests New Biofuel Blend
1 Jul 2025

The bulk carrier Luise Oldendorff, registered in Portugal, recently completed a successful test of an eco-friendly fuel blend in Singapore. The fuel, known as VLS B24, consists of 76% traditional marine fuel and 24% biodiesel derived from recycled cooking oil (UCOME).
Prepared by Petrobras Singapore in locally leased tanks, the blend meets strict sustainability standards through ISCC EU certification, ensuring traceability throughout its supply chain. The trial was conducted in collaboration with Oldendorff Carriers, Petrobras, and Vale, as part of a broader strategic effort to advance sustainable fuel solutions and significantly reduce maritime emissions.
The Portuguese flag strongly supports such innovative projects aimed at emissions reduction, reinforcing its role as a reliable partner in global maritime sustainability initiatives. The test aligns with international maritime decarbonization targets and highlights the collective responsibility and ongoing efforts within the shipping industry.
