Portugal accepts Dual Load Line for open hatch cargo ships in F900 series

23 Jun 2024

24.06.2024 - The Portuguese flag has been selected over other flags for the entire F900 series of 19 Heavy Load Carriers, all operated by United Heavy Lift (UHL). These vessels frequently operate with open hatches, a capability underscored by an open hatch class notation from DNV, in accordance with MSC/Circ. 608/rev.1 and Dual Load Lines as per Portuguese Circular 19.

Additionally, the Portuguese flag has granted exemptions, such as the spacing of masthead lights, to accommodate the ships' innovative designs. These vessels have successfully transported oversized cargo over the Northern Sea routes from Europe to East Asia under open hatch conditions, utilizing an adjusted secondary approved load line mark. The Portuguese flag's endorsement of these environmentally friendly operations highlights its support for advanced maritime transport solutions.
