NCL VESTLAND Joins Portugal-Flagged Fleet with Green Methanol Technology
30 Mar 2025

The newly built container ship NCL VESTLAND has been registered under the Portugal flag in the Madeira Ship Register. This environmentally friendly vessel features a dual-fuel engine capable of running on green methanol, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.
A sister ship, NCL NORDLAND, with the same dual-fuel technology, is also sailing under the Portugal flag.
Wilhelm Loskot, COO of EUROMAR, welcomed the vessel:
"We appreciate MPCC as the owner and Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel Ship Management as the ship manager for their contribution to modernizing the Portugal-flagged fleet. This marks another step toward making sustainable shipping a reality."
The Portugal-flagged fleet remains one of the youngest in Europe, with an average vessel age of 11.88 years (tonnage-weighted). It continues to be a top performer in maritime safety.
Both ships are 149 meters long, with a gross tonnage of 16,000 GT, 18,800 dwt, and a capacity of 1,279 TEU. They are chartered to North Sea Container Line and primarily operate in Norwegian waters.
