Navigating FuelEU Maritime: How OceanScore can help with new regulations
23 Jun 2024

24.06.2024 - Starting January 1, 2025, FuelEU Maritime will impose the most complex environmental regulations on the shipping industry to date. This regulation aims to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity of energy used by ships over 5000GT, using a 2020 baseline. The reduction targets start at 2% in 2025 and escalate to 80% by 2050, with severe penalties for non-compliance.
FuelEU promotes the adoption of zero and low-carbon fuels and sustainable technologies, such as wind power, to enhance fuel efficiency. Shipping companies must navigate complex fuel choices and investment decisions to comply. The regulation introduces new definitions and mandates the formation of compliance pools beyond existing fleets of owners and managers. It also necessitates the maturity of alternative fuels and the exploration of onshore power options.
To prepare for FuelEU, shipping companies must submit a monitoring plan by August 31, detailing fuel type and consumption for each EU voyage for each vessel. This plan is crucial for tracking and ensuring compliance.
OceanScore offers comprehensive consulting and support services to help you make informed decisions, achieve efficient compliance, and maintain 360° transparency. Their suite of FuelEU products is designed to assist in simulating, planning, managing, and mitigating the impacts of this regulation.
